Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Global financial crisis began in summer of 2007 in the United States when "big bubble" exploded in the US subprime mortgage market and quickly spread globally. It had enormous negative effects on the economies around the world, and even nowadays many negative consequences can be perceived. The main objective of this work was to analyze the performance of the banking sector of the Republic of Croatia, before, during and after the financial crisis, in order to find out if crisis (and to what extent), affected the operations of the Croatian banking sector. When those operations are compared in the period before and after the global financial crisis. The analysis of the banking business activites has shown that it is not possible to notice any excessive changes in most indicators when looking at the period before, during and after the financial crisis. Confirmation that the financial crisis did not affect the operations of the banking sector of the Republic of Croatia was obtained from regression analysis which showed that the variable (financial crisis) is not significant for the banking operations of Croatia in the period from 2000 to 2013. Furthermore, study results showed even when crisis is included into the model, that variables: the rate of credit growth (positive) and the ratio of capital and assets (negative) have significant effect on return on equity (ROE). In case crisis is not included into regression model, HHI and the ratio of capital and assets have significant and negative affect on ROE.
