Abstract
U ovom radu nastoji se dati, koliko je moguće, cjelovit pregled prostornog razvoja grada Splita na temelju dostupne literature s područja povijesti, urbanizma, povijesti umjetnosti, arhitekture i arheologije. Istraživanjem je obuhvaćeno razdoblje od kasnog srednjeg vijeka, s kratkim osvrtom na ranija razdoblja, do konca 18. st. Radom se nastoji odgovoriti na pitanja na koji se način i kojom dinamikom odvijalo oblikovanje prostorne strukture grada, te na koji su način politički, gospodarski i društveni aspekti u navedenom razdoblju utjecali na njegov razvoj. Temeljem istraživanja uočeno je kako je osnovna osobina prostornog razvoja Splita sporost, i duga razdoblja stagnacije u urbanom razvoju, a koja je posljedica gubitka komunalne autonomije padom pod mletačku vlast, i vanjskih čimbenika pod kojima ponajprije podrazumijevamo utjecaj dugotrajnih mletačko – turskih ratova.
Abstract (english)
This paper endeavours to present, as much as possible, the evolution of the spatial structure of the city of Split, based on a relevant literature within a domain of history, urbanism, art history, arhitecture and arheology. The research covers the period from the Late Middle Ages by the end of the 18th century, with a brief overview on a previous historical periods. The author examines in what way and by which dynamics the shaping of the city took place, and how the political, economical and social aspects during the examined period took impact on its development. Based on the research the author came to the conclusion that the fundamental characteristic of the spatial evolution of Split is the slowness in its urban growth, including even long periods of stagnation, as the result of losing communal autonomy after the fall under the Venetian rule, and external factors, primarily implying on a long history of Ottoman – Venetian Wars.
