History
Abstract
Ravni kotari su uvijek bili strateško područje.Na ovom području su tijekom srednjeg vijeka postojale županije te poslije distrikti. Na srednjovjekovim selima, koja su se protezala uz Veliku Cestu koja se pružala kroz Ravne kotare, brojni hrvatski plemićki rodovi su imali posjede i terene na tim područjima. U radu će se ubicirati ta naselja i sela, kuda su se protezale njihove granice, i koji su to rodovi imali posjede. Ta sela imaju svoju povijest kroz vrijeme. Određena sela su nestala te su na to mjesto došla nova. Na ovom prostoru su se lomila koplja između Mletačke republike i Osmanskog carstva. Također, takvi utjecaj, vrtlog koji je nastao sukobom između dviju strana (još trebamo spomenuti otpor hrvatskih plemića). Navale i pljačkaški pohodi su potaknuli na otpor. Tako su počele nicati uvrde te kašteli u svrhu obrane od Turaka te su te uvrde bile skloništa za stanovništvo. Jedino se u njima odvijao život (Novigrad, Vrana, i dr.). To osmansko pritiskanje te poslije njihovo odbacivanje je ostavilo ogroman trag na ovom području. Na stanovništvo, mjesta, sela. Sve do danas. Okrupljivanjem sela nastajala su druga sela čega ćemo se dotaknuti u radu.
Abstract (english)
Ravni Kotari were always a place of great strategic importance. During the Middle Ages, territory of Ravni Kotari was divided into „županije“, whom later became districts. The Croatian nobility had its lands on a landmark called Velika Cesta, a road that stretches over the territory of Ravni Kotari. This text will try to locate these lands of Croatian nobility, define their boundaries, define their owners, and locate any villages or settlements that may have existed or still exist. This text will also focus on forts and castles that were build during the wars between the Ottoman Empire and the Serene Republic of Venice. The purpose of these castles and forts was to defend from the ongoing Ottoman threat, and they were the centre of life for people living on these territories, providing a much needed security. Period of Ottoman invasions left a great „scar“ which can be felt even today. Consolidation of villages and settlements led to creation of new villages and settlements.
