Abstract
Dyslexia is usually defined as reading and learning difficulty which affects the process of first and second language acquisition. This master thesis aimed to examine teachers’ knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes towards teaching EFL to dyslexic students in Croatia. Qualitative research was conducted on a sample of 18 teachers from Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva County. The instrument used for data collection was the semi-structured interview. The results of the present study were compared to the findings of similar studies conducted in the Croatian context. The study showed a need for further education and professional training of the FL teachers regarding dyslexia. The final part of this thesis dealt with the suggestions for teaching practice, limitations of this study and possible directions for further research.
Abstract (croatian)
Disleksija se najčešće definira kao poteškoća u čitanju i učenju koja utječe na proces usvajanja materinskog jezika, ali i stranoga jezika. Cilj ovog rada bio je ispitati znanje, stavove i uvjerenja nastavnika engleskoga jezika o podučavanju disleksičnih učenika. Kvalitativno istraživanje provedeno je na uzorku od 18 nastavnika iz Splitsko-dalmatinske i Dubrovačko-neretvanske županije. Instrument korišten za prikupljanje podataka bio je individualni polustrukturirani intervju. Rezultati su uspoređeni s rezultatima prethodnih sličnih istraživanja provedenih u Hrvatskoj. Istraživanje je pokazalo potrebu za daljnim obrazovanjem i stručnim usavršavanjem nastavnika stranih jezika po pitanju disleksije. U završnom dijelu ovog rada navode se preporuke za rad u nastavi, ograničenja istraživanja i mogući smjerovi za daljnja istraživanja.
