Abstract
Androgyny in science fiction often does not go far enough in depicting it as more distinct from standard humanity. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin features humans genetically modified to be androgynous. This thesis paper explores the portrayal of androgyny in that novel, analyzes it according to feminist theories, compares it to its portrayal in Ann Leckie’s Ancillary Justice, and concludes with comparing the Nature of Gethenians to the Nature of humans.
Abstract (english)
Androginost u znanstvenoj fantastici često ne ide dovoljno daleko u prikazivanju iste kao drugačijeg vida čovječanstva. Knjiga Lijeva ruka tame od Ursule K. Le Guin prikazuje ljudsku vrstu genetski modificiranu da bude androgina. Ovaj završni rad istražuje prikaz androgenosti u toj knjizi, analizira ju kroz feminističke teorije, uspoređuje ju s prikazom u knjizi Ancillary Justice od Ann Leckie te uspoređuje Prirodu Gethenaca s Prirodom ljudi u zaključku.
