Abstract
Šireći svoju vlast Osmansko carstvo 1463. godine zaposjeda Bosnu odakle nastavlja s daljnjim osvajanjem teritorija. Dolaskom na hrvatsko područje, Osmanlije 1536. godine osvajaju i strateški vrlo važan Sinj. Budući da je Mletačka Republika oduvijek isticala pravo na Dalmaciju nije se pomirila sa gubitkom tog dijela teritorija. U prvom Morejskom ratu Mlečani uspijevaju osvojiti Sinj, ali se Osmanlije ne predaju te 1715. godine organiziraju veliku opsadu grada u nadi da će ga vratiti u svoje ruke. U ljeto iste godine sinjsku tvrĎavu napada osmanka vojska koja broji oko 70 000 vojnika na čelu sa Mustafom-pašom Čelićem. Malobrojni sinjski puk u suradnji sa mletačkom vojskom i krajišnicima uspijeva obraniti grad i otjerati neprijatelje. Dok je trajala opsada na tvrĎavi se nalazila slika kojoj su vapili sinjski branitelji i u koju su polagali sve svoje nade, riječ je o slici Majke od Milosti kasnije poznatoj kao Čudotvorna Gospa Sinjska. Branitelji sinjske tvrĎave bili su uvjereni kako im je upravo Majka svojim zagovorom kod Boga izmolila pobjedu. U spomen na tu slavnu bitku i pobjedu nad Osmanlijama kao i u znak zahvale Čudotvornoj Gospi Sinjskoj alkari svake godine početkom kolovoza sudjeluju u viteškom nadmetanju. Jašući na konjima u punom trku, alkari gaĎaju željeznu alku obješenu preko trkališta dužine tristo metara. Iako se mišljenja o početku ustanovljivanja Alke razilaze, danas se kao godina njezina osnutka uzima upravo 1715. godina. Kroz svoju dugu povijest Sinjska alka bila je dio različitih državnih zajednica, a zbog financijske ovisnosti morala je gajiti dobre odnose sa vladajućim. Brojni ratovi, krize i druga različita iskušenja čine povijest Sinjske alke još bogatijom i vrijednom istraživanja i proučavanja.
Abstract (english)
Ottoman Empire occupied Bosnia in 1463. and after that Ottomans continued to conquer, turning their eyes on Croatian territory. When they arrived at the Croatian area, the Ottomans conquered in 1536. the strategically very important town of Sinj. Since the Venetians have always emphasized their right on Dalmatia they have not accepted the loss of that part of their territory. In the first Morean War, the Venetians managed to conquer Sinj but the Ottomans did not give up hopes on reclaming Sinj. What is more, in 1715 they organized a great siege of the city. In the summer of 1715. the Ottoman army, which had about 70 000 soldiers headed by Mustafa- paša Ĉelić, attacked the Fortress of Sinj. However defenders of the fortress managed to defeat the enemies. While the siege of the fortress lasted, in the fortress there was a picture of the Mother of Mercy to whom they prayed. The defenders were convinced that they won because of her help. In commemoration of this glorious battle and the victory over the Ottomans every year at the beginning of August, knights of Sinj participate in knight competition. Riding on horses at gallop speed they try to hit iron boot which is hanging across the racetrack. Although opinions about the beginning of Alka's establishment differ, today it is considered that it all started with year 1715. Through its long history, the Alka of Sinj was part of various state communities, and due to financial dependence it had to cultivate good relations with politicians. Numerous wars, crises and the other different temptations make history of the Alka richer and more valuable to research and study.
