This thesis examines the castle Pejačević which was built in 1804 in Virovitica. It was designed by N. Roth, an architect from Vienna, and it belongs to the style of late baroque classicism. It was named after its first owners, the counts Pejačević. The urbanistic and architectural center of Virovitica was a medieval fortress that was located in the place where the castle stands today. Aside from the castle and the fortress, this thesis also focuses on the park that surrounds the castle and together with it creates a balanced cultural and historical unity. In this thesis I have elaborated the historical circumstances of the time in which the castle was constructed and presented its preserved heritage. The castle and the park are currently being restored. The renewal of the park included an archeological research, the results of which provided a complete image of the medieval fortress that preceded the castle. In this thesis I have also presented the construction of the castle, the reasons and the historical circumstances of its construction, and ultimately presented the new appearance of the whole structure and the renewed park in the city center as a compound of the old and the new
