Ante Šupuk was a mayor of Šibenik in the period of 1873.-1903. He is one of the most important figures in the history of Šibenik. His imprint on Šibenik’s history is visible even today, and that is described in two aspects of his work, political and entrepreneurial. First aspect, the political one, is important not just for Šibenik, but for the whole Dalmatia. He became the first mayor from the People’s Party. Through his career he was mostly fighting against Autonomist Party. In his time the city was visited by the emperor Franjo Josip, which was followed by numerous conflicts with members of Šibenik’s Autonomist Party, but also with those from Split, especially Bajamonti. After the Autonomist Party lost their power, the new threat was Croatian Party of Rights. In the beginning he was against their politics, but later he left them, in peace and cooperation, the municipality. Second aspect is the entrepreneurial. He is responsible for the modernization of small agricultural town. Some of the biggest projects are modern water supply system, expansion of the promenade, Provincial hospital, connecting the city with railroads and electrification.
