Abstract
WiMAX je širokopojasna bežična mreža koja se pojavila 2001. godine kao konkurent drugim tehnologijama. Nudila je bolje uvjete, brzinu i uslugu. Svojim radijusom od 50 km te brzinama od 24 Mbit/s, u svojim počecima, bila je ispred svog vremena te je bila ozbiljnija prijetnja ostalim tehnologijama. WiMAX forum bio je zadužen za promociju te reklamu navedene tehnologije, a cilj mu je bio da WiMAX postane većinski zastupljen u svijetu u odnosu na ostale konkurente. Standard na kojem se WiMAX bazirao (802.16) razvijao se godinama te je nudio stabilniju uslugu i veće brzine. No 2012. godine, WiMAX tehnologija doživjela je zastoj te se nije razvijala iz razloga što mrežni operatori nisu prepoznali njezin potencijal te nisu htjeli ulagati u nju.
Abstract (english)
WiMAX is broadband wireless network which come throught in 2001 year like a competitor for other technologies. It offered better conditions, speed and service. With its radius of 50 km and speed of 24 Mbps, at its start, it was ahead of its time and it was serious threat to other technologies. WiMAX forum was in charge of promoting and advertising this technology. Its goal was that WiMAX becomes leading technology in world in comparison to other competitors. Standard on which WiMAX was based was 802.16 which was developed for years and offered better reliability and higher speeds. I n 2012 WiMAX technology experienced a stalemate and did not develop beacuse network providers did not recognised its potential and did not want to invest in it.
