Abstract Demencija je duševni poremećaj, obilježen općim oštećenjem intelektualnog funkcioniranja, često s oštećenim pamćenjem, teškoćama u računanju, smetenošću, promjenama raspoloženja i emocijama, oštećenjem prosudbe i apstrakcije, smanjenim govornim sposobnostima te poremećenom orijentacijom. Demencija je progresivna bolest koja se uzrokuje gubitak mentalnih sposobnosti, što rezultira promjenom osobnosti,memorije te gubitku socijalnih sposobnosti. Ona nije normalan dio starenja te je većina ljudi nikada ne razvije.
Glavni simptom bolesti je zaboravljivost.Postoji 7 stadija bolesti, od najblažeg do najtežeg. Postoji više kliničkih oblika demencije te svaka ima svoj uzrok. Osnova svega je na vrijeme uočiti simptome te krenuti sa terapijom kako bi se odgodila terminalna faza bolesti te kako bi bolesnikšto duže zadržao što veći stupanj samostalnosti. Osim farmakološke terapije u demenciji postoje i nova inovativna otkrića koja su jako pridonijela dužem boravku bolesnika u njegovom domu sa obitelji, a da se izbjegnu potencijalne opasnosti koje donosi bolest sa sobom. Glavni uzrok tim opasnostima je osnovni simptom bolesti, a to je zaboravljivost. Postoje i mjere koje se provode u prevenciji demencije. Tu se mnogo radi na pravilnoj prehrani sa populacijom koja nema simptome bolesti te adekvatnoj fizičkoj aktivnosti. Također je potrebno liječiti i bilo kakve organske bolesti koje mogu dovesti do razvoja demencije. Bitno je educirati i zdravu i bolesnu populaciju, zdravu kako bi spriječili nastanak bolesti, a bolesnu kako da nauče živjeti sa bolesti te zadrže što viši stupanj samostalnosti što duže vremena.
Abstract (english) Dementia is a mental disorder characterized by impairment of general intellectual disfungcioning, often with impaired memory, difficulty in counting, confusion, changes of mood and emotions, impaired judgment, and abstraction, reduced verbalabilities and disturbed orientation. Dementia is a progressive disease that causes loss of mental ability, which results in personality changes, memory loss and social skills. It is not a normal part of aging and most people never develop. The main symptom is forgetfulnes, and there are seven stages of the disease, the mildest to the most difficult. It occurs in several clinical forms of dementia and each has its cause. The basis of all is importance the symptoms and therapy to take patient candelay terminal phase of the disease, so they can maintain a greater degree of independence. In addition to pharmacologic therapy in dementia, there are new innovative discoveries that have contributed being longer patients home with his family, and to avoid the potential dangers of the disease with them. There is a lot of work on proper nutrition, with a population that has no symptoms and adequate physical activity. People need to treat any organic disease that can lead to the development dementia. It si very important to educated healthy and diseased populations healthy in order to prevent the occurrence of disease and also the ill population to learn to live with the disease and maintain the highest possible degree of independence as long as possible.
