Abstract
U prošlosti je magnetski kompas bio jedini instrument za pokazivanje pravca meridijana, a za njegovo korištenje na brodu bitno je bilo poznavanje varijacije i devijacije. Temeljni zahtjevi koje izabrano mjesto za postavljanje glavnog kompasa mora ispunjavati su pouzdanost kompasa u radu koja se osigurava izborom najpovoljnijih magnetskih i dinamičkih uvjeta i temperaturnog režima i vlažnosti, te lako korištenje i jednostavno održavanje kompasa. Zbog navedenih uvjeta obično se postavljaju na vrhu kormilarnice kako bi utjecaj brodskog magnetskog polja bio najmanji, a s druge strane kompas bio dovoljno blizu mjesta kormilarenja.
Abstract (english)
In the past, the magnetic compass was the only instrument to show the direction of the meridian, and for its use on board it was important to know variation and deviation. The basic requirements that have been chosen for the positioning of the main compass must be the compass reliability in the work that is provided by the choice of the most favorable magnetic and dynamic conditions and temperature regime and humidity, and easy to use and easy maintenance of the compass. Due to the above mentioned conditions, they are usually placed at the top of the wheelhouse to minimize the impact of the ship's magnetic field, also the compass should be situated close to the wheelhouse.
